Weird cable companies- ever tried any of these?

Post by losthighway » Sun May 31, 2020 1:11 pm

I have a weird combination of an Amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket, and the perennial need for more trs to xlr cables. In their weirdness, Amazon stocks Tisino, Cable Matters, Cable Creation and Seismic Audio. They're all so inexpensive I assume they're not very good.

Anyone know anything about any of these?

i've bought seismic before, they are what you think they are. cheap chinese made cables. but they work and i've not had any issues with them in a year or so of use in my studio. no idea on the others.

I had a Seismic snake. Maybe I still do...? it's Ok for the studio where it stays put. I wouldn't expect one to last too long if gigged. Not much different than the quality of a Hosa or Monoprice snake IMO... you know, molded 1/4" plugs and such. not much room for repairs..

yeah, i think i cut open a TRS or XLR cable and both wires were black, so there was no differentiation between hold and cold. i was to lazy to pull out the multimeter and figure it out, i just threw that one out. definaely not built for the stage either! lol. good point. but yeah for non moving studio stuff it's fine.

I got a pack of Seismic XLRs ages ago. I think 1 of 6 has failed in about 12 years of casual use. The connectors are Switchcraft-ish, not super accurate clones - looks like they've slightly stepped up their connector game since then.

At work, we recently ordered a mess of Amazionbasics XLRs. They're better than I expected.

actually I think I sold it and got a better one (with a box and panel-mount XLR instead of just regular XLR)
