Who is still using Pro Tools 9 and doesn't want to upgrade?

Post by clean_and_humble » Fri Oct 23, 2020 3:20 pm

I am staunchly still using PT9 and on Mac OS 10.6.8
I honestly have not had any major issues to want to switch.
My only issues are new plugins never work on my system and once my iLok broke
but I paid for a new one and have been stable ever since.

Who else is in this camp?

I'm still on 9 and will likely never give avid any of my money again.

PT9 was about when (home studio version) pro tools got good, I stuck with that for awhile. 11/12 was solid and some good new features, stayed more or less stagnant since then. Stopped at...late 2019 I think.

I like modern plugins and other software so PT9 just wasn’t practical for me anymore unless I want to have to fire up an old computer every time.

I made the move to PT11+12+2019 because I wanted the full 64-bit support (to take advantage of >4GB memory in the system). of course this meant I had to "upgrade" many plugins to versions that supported AAX. Luckily some of those were free updates, but some were not. And some didn't exist (like Massey, who didn't support Windows until very recently). I tried to go to PT 2020 but it won't run properly on my system (the same one that runs 2019 with no issues). So this may be the end of the road for me with Avid.

A friend of mine still uses PT9 and it works fine - I just have to "save as" and be careful not to use any "new" features when sending tracks back to him (which is usually just drums). so far, no issues. I remember PT9 being pretty stable with the last builds.

I actually bought 12, but haven't wanted to deal with the plugin downloads and hassles of a "new" setup. There are some cool things I can't get in 32 bit, so I should just get to it...

if you can, get a new hard drive (ssd even better) and reinstall everything from scratch and save the old one just in case...

Whats the etiquette on promoting a FB Group and discord on this forum? I started one for staunch Pro Tools 9 users
and I want to build it up to be a large database for people like us

As long as it’s not spammy I don’t think anyone cares, as you can see we aren’t really heavily moderated

I have a PT TDM HD3 stuck at 10.
My laptop has PT 2019.x.x.x.x.x.x or whatever, just to be able to open sessions.

I moved over to Nuendo, they had their 20th Anniversary sale, so upgrading my ANCIENT version 1.0 cost
an amazing 300 bucks.

So much better now.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Here is the discord support group I started for people like us. There is not much on it yet but help me build it into the community and database we all need. Us bold users of older Pro Tools need people we can turn to when things go wrong and once Avid finds out we are calling about a legacy product they turn us away like beggars.
