On the 421, I remember an ad in Modern Drummer that has 421 set up as side address overheads once.
aka "the indirect room mic" method.

I have, more than once, sung into the back side of a LDC, a cuppla times on purpose, even.

It was some cheapshit drum company with a 1/4 page ad.

Recording-wise, can't think of anything ..but did cause a mic to fall 12 ft off a boom and get wrecked.

I've done and still do plenty of stupid things. I think I just worry about it less now as long as it works.
Lets say around 2000... First digital band recording I ever did I plugged a 421 directly into a compressor, right into an interface with no preamp. I really didn't understand what a preamp did. I still don't know to this day what I did to make that kick drum usable in the mix but somehow I pulled it off.
