the vocal compressor on Jet's "Are You Gonna be My Girl".
What's the story with this?

Give a listen to the beginning. He coughs, and the compressor slams it.

Also, there's a choon on the first Dinosaur, Jr. reunion album where a cell phone rings at the end

Also, Nick Lowe's "You Make Me" has ultra-heavy compression grabbing every breath and mouth noise.

Joe Henry did a whole album, "Reverie" where they put up microphones outside to catch all the neighborhood noise. He'd gotten tired of trying to cover up the sounds that leaked in to his home studio while recording.

Speaking of compression issues, I'm a big fan of The Church and they have a record called Forget Yourself.

Back in the 00's I had a copy of that PSP Vintage Warmer compressor that was very trendy on the mix-buss for achieving a loudness and psuedo-mastering. It sounded OK, but was very identifiable. I only liked it on the drums two-mix.

I've no real idea how, but that whole Forget Yourself album has a very consistent mix-buss compression on it, and to me it sounds like that plug-in - almost as a parody of that sound.

Still a great record, tho', if ya like The Church.
