Smart cable hanging solution?
Smart cable hanging solution?
I have a fairly small space with a lot of traps on the walls. I have about a 4'x3' space where I'd like to hang some cables and maximize density. Something that doubled as a diffusor or trap would be killer. Any suggestions?

I just use long nails typically. I have some screw in brackets that hunters use to hold their weapons when in a tree stand as well. They work great and are low profile.

Not much diffusion, but my trick is to take pegboard that they sell at Lowes or wherever, that you'd use to hang tools in your garage. I use liquid nails and glue OC703 to the back of it. Then using some really long screws mount it on the wall, then put fairly long pegs in it (maybe 4-6 inches, can't remember), and hang cables off of that. It offers some acoustic treatment, and some storage. You can also paint the pegboard if you don't like it white.

Not sure of your exact setup, but Maybe screw these to the top frames of your sound panels?

here's a couple shots of mine... (headphones too). I keep longer XLR's and guitar cables coiled, tied with velcro, and on a shelf.

I coil mine and use velcro ties and hang them on these Ikea things. Each one holds a lot of cables.

Re: Smart cable hanging solution?
these are my favorite options for hooks you can buy:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Blue-Hawk-4-53 ... k/50218515
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Blue-Hawk-10-8 ... k/50218529
i like them better than the coat hook options utility wise, but they aren't as nice looking.
I've also made some cable hangers, by taking a horizontally oriented 2x4, drilling holes into it and and used either worn broken drumsticks, or allthread to make longer hooks where i can store way more cables.
also yeah major pro tip, get velcro cable ties in some obnoxious color for all your cables so there's never a debate about who's cable is who's cable. I started doing that for my live performance rig mainly, but it's useful in the studio too.

At work we have big walls with shelf brackets holding hundreds of cables. We use that heavy-duty home shelving track with the double slots, and the track goes up about 12 feet in the warehouse. Down around 3-4 feet we have more industrial brackets that still fit the track, but have an angle reinforcement thing.

I use colored electrical tape wrapped around the jack covers. I use velcro, too, and some of it is even colored, but I started with black velcro before you could get the colors and waste not ...dave watkins wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 5:26 pmalso yeah major pro tip, get velcro cable ties in some obnoxious color for all your cables so there's never a debate about who's cable is who's cable. I still have guitar and mic stands I shot with dayglo paint back in the day, taking the idear from Living Color.

Re: Smart cable hanging solution?
this is semi-related, but here's what I did to re-gain some floor space. instead of having a bunch of mic stands sitting around with open tripods, I got some of those hanging tool holders like you might find in a garage (holding rakes) and put them down near the ground at just enough height to keep the stand from falling over, but most of the weight is on the floor. So far, so good and now there is more space for the guitar player's crap in the corner of the studio!
