Source for older Sennheiser mic repairs?

Post by TapeOpLarry » Fri Aug 27, 2021 10:50 am

I have a 90's era MD421 where the head basket broke. Sent to Sennheiser a few years back and they won't touch it. Anyone have a person who works on these? A couple of peas have similar issues with old 409's and white 421's. Annoying!

Everyone always says Richard Land for AKG... which is obviously different than Sennheiser... but maybe he has some experience? may be worth a call.

kind of a downer though. you can't exactly go out and buy a "new" vintage 421... only a new MD-421 II. I guess you could buy a dead 421 (aka "for parts") and then use the mechanical pieces to repair the good one. this was interesting too:

I think I have some body parts for a MD-441 (I think the capsule was shot so it got disassembled, but now looking at the above link I wonder...)

Probably a dozen years ago we had a 421 with a broken shell. I talked to the parts guy at Sennheiser USA (he retired not very much later, which was a loss), and he let us take his last replacement shell. Actually it might have been a slightly used one he was hanging on to.

I think at this point anybody who fancies the old 421's needs to start hoarding parts and dead mics. I've gotten that way with the original CAD E-100.

Get a broken 421 cheap and find a buddy who fixes such things.

I usually stock a few key parts like NOS capsules from MD409 or Beyer M380, so i don't run into shortage midsession.
Due to luck and circumstances i am offering a limited run of Beyerdynamic M380 clones with unused Beyer capsules. PM me for info.
