I'm just using the built in DBX. If you don't slam the levels it's fine. Using good mics and preamps makes a big difference. I also mute any track that's not playing and only bring it in for the active part of the track. It also helps to use any treble boost eqs and comps on the way in. Using them in post adds noise. A little hiss is no biggie though.
