HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATION NEEDED
AFter 30 years, my Austrian made AKG K240 "Monitor" headphones crapped the bed. I LOVED them.
My back up, Sony MDR 7506's sound too harsh in the high end.
I need to buy another pair and prefer to stay in the $100-$200 range. (I have a fairly modest home studio.)
Do any of you have helpful suggestions?
Thanks

I got some Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250's and I like them (and agree the MDR 7506 has too much high end for me). very comfortable.

AudioTechnica M50
Over ear. Comes with 2 detachable cables.
Spare parts are available.
I like the sound a lot.
Usually $150

Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate you taking the time.
I'm wondering how practical a repair option would be.

Why not try the new K240s?
I have a Studio K240 pair, and like them a lot. I can work on them for a few hours at normal volume without issues, and they represent the frequency range well.
This is their new "mkii" model:

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Re: HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATION NEEDED
2nd this suggestion. They're the best closed backs in that price range that I've tried. Nice full range sound. Top end doesn't rip your ears up. I've mixed with them and had good results once I got used to how they translate to speakers.
I bought a pair of DT770s a few months ago because I remembered liking them when I had a pair years ago, and man are they fucking harsh. I do not remember that being a thing. I kept them for the studio for other people to use and for an occasional reference. I think the clarity in the bottom end is nice, but that treble is brutal.

Re: HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATION NEEDED
I decided to try a pair of Equation Audio RP-21's.
Came highly recommended. Will let you know.

Something that might help is cut the elastic top offa pair of socks, slip 'em over the earpiece and pad.Recycled_Brains wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:34 pmI bought a pair of DT770s a few months ago because I remembered liking them when I had a pair years ago, and man are they fucking harsh. I think I mentioned this before; I did it on some open-air Senns (that had with rotted pads) to make 'em more comfortable, and they sound better, also.

Re: HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATION NEEDED
I don't feel like that with mine, but then I bet headphone amps can probably make a difference. Mine is not anything special which is why I mostly just use it for reference and tracking. Also my DT770's are the 250 ohm (I think they offer 3 different models with different impedance values).Recycled_Brains wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:34 pm

Re: HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATION NEEDED
It's all person dependent I think. I've gone through monitors for the same reasons. Mine are the 250 ohm as well. I'm wondering if maybe back in the day, the pair I used were the 80's.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 7:36 amI don't feel like that with mine, but then I bet headphone amps can probably make a difference. Re: HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATION NEEDED
I always replace my k240s with k240s when they can't be repaired. No reason to change.

Re: HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATION NEEDED
What kind of headphone amps y'all using?
So many of the nicer ones are rack mount which is worthless to me. Why would I want to use all 4 of my TRS lines to the live room only to need 25 foot trs male to female lines for each pair of headphones?
I've found the "nicer" $100+ boxes don't last any longer than generic $30 boxes but I sometimes fear I'm sacrificing fidelity.
