Space Echo plus expression pedal
Hi there, have not logged into this forum in a long time, I gave away a ton of my analog gear when I moved in 2020, now getting myself used to arguing with a computer when it's time to record, instead of cleaning tape machines like I'm accustomed to.
BUT! Finally got an expression pedal to control motor speed on my Space Echo -- it is the grandest thing ever, why I waited til now, no clue - I've had this Space Echo since 1990. It's helping me swallow the bitter pill of working in the box.
That's all, just here to share this joyous discovery - this is the most supremely wierd shit I've ever had the privilege of recording with. Giving a singer a foot pedal to control their own "spaciness" with is truly a riot.
Thanks for listening, stay healthy.

Motor speed? So the pitch changes?
Check out guitarist Mary Halvorson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJwyBBcP51A
She uses an expression pedal on a Line 6 delay to do wacky pitch things. Not at all what you'd expect from a jazz player, but it works.

Yeah, exactly, delay time, with associated pitch change until you settle on a speed. Plus speed-related "fidelity" changes too, slower speeds, murkier highs, etc. It's beautifully chaotic. Just a simple cheapo moog passive expression pedal directly controlling the motor, so great.
I dig Mary Halvorson, thanks!

C'mon man, you can't just tell us about this, we need a video demonstration.

Re: Space Echo plus expression pedal
so is that one of the RE-301 or one of the newer digital units? I thought the RE-201 earlier only had a on/off (cancel delay) footswitch? Or is this a mod? just curious.
Re: Space Echo plus expression pedal
TIL that one of the extra features of the 301 (but NOT the 501/SRE-555) is a motor speed control jack.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:11 amso is that one of the RE-301 or one of the newer digital units? Huh.
Re: Space Echo plus expression pedal
A useful mod that I’ve done to some delays is a footswitch that selects an alternative time / speed potentiometer, so you can bounce between two speeds without having to hunt with a foot pedal.

Re: Space Echo plus expression pedal
and then it also becomes the Chorus echo... OP said Space Echo... oh and the label on the jack says "remote" instead of "Foot Sw". yes, learning new things every day...analogika wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:45 amTIL that one of the extra features of the 301 (but NOT the 501/SRE-555) is a motor speed control jack.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:11 amso is that one of the RE-301 or one of the newer digital units? Re: Space Echo plus expression pedal
Sorry dudes, I'll try to get some video up for you if I can finagle it.
It is an RE-301 by the way "Chorus Echo" with the control pedal jack.
The chorus is sick on this thing too, by the way. Andy Summers sick...
