Countraman ISOMAX II fig.8 — inherently noisy?

Post by alexdingley » Tue Feb 22, 2022 7:05 pm

I bought a used Countryman isomax II lapel mic, and although I'm planning to use it mainly as a beater-side mic for kick drum (so this isn't likely going to be a huge issue), it does seem like the self-noise is pretty high. Not like "broken mic" high, but way higher than any of my modern condenser mics.

Is this a not-uncommon trait in these older lapel-style mics?
