Is there a plugin that can swap L/R channels?

Post by digitaldrummer » Thu Apr 28, 2022 11:22 am

Seems like I've seen something before. I may even have the plugin but I can't seem to find that function right now. Looking to completely swap Left and Right channels on the master to hear what it sounds like reversed (and I don't want to have to swap every individual track in a mix). I'm sure some plugin has implemented this feature?

thanks

A few moments hunting brings me to: https://www.raisingjakestudios.com/util ... :32Swapper

That's actually a pretty useful feature in general, and I don't know why we don't see it more often. I've been known to patch an input of my Coleman switcher with the L/R swapped, so it's a matter of switching inputs to do the swap (at the cost of losing an input).

If I ever make my own monitor controller, that's certainly on the feature list...or maybe even a more genericized version, because I see left-to-both and right-to-both, or sides swapped, or mono all being useful.

Stereo tool by flux will do that and a lot more. Independent level, pan controls and polarity reverse for each channel, a phase meter and good level meters. Plus you can make and save your own presets.
I have presets for L-R swap and summed mono to one side to feed my auratone or to check for phase issue on my mains.

thanks guys! and the prices on these are both great too!

btw, i did build my own monitor switcher (right now just a mechanical switch between 2 pairs of powered monitors) and if I could not find a plugin, I considered adding a 2nd switch to reverse the L/R - but these are way easier to implement! and cost less!

It's a native plug-in in Cool Edit, which fact likely helps you not at all, but I say that because it's a very useful feature, ex., when cutting and pasting stereo backing vocals on, say, 3 chorus in a row, flipping the BV's on the middle chorus makes the cut-n-paste much less obvious.

I tried the "Stereo Swapper" from Raising Jake Studios yesterday and it does exactly what I needed - and it's free! nice and simple. And tbh I would recommend everyone try it. it was a bit shocking at first to hear how different it sounded in reverse (I guess I could flip over the headphones, but that's different too...). There are so many factors - the room, my ears, possibly my monitors, etc. But after swapping back and forth and making a few minor mix adjustments I was pretty happy with what it does and feel like my mix is better too.

This seems really handy on stereo busses in general.

Sidenote... the Raising Jake MB3X is a pretty rad plugin. Audiosiege put up a mastering preset on his IG that is nice.

Panipulator is an amazing tool for this and more:

I heard they inserted a Jimmy Hendrix into the chain somewhere before the preamp.

...Anybody know what that preamp was, 'cause I'd also love to get that sound.
