Studio websites?

You folks have any opinions on good looking studio websites that you've seen lately?

I know a lot of folks use their socio-media sites (FB-Insta) for their studios. I do too but I know when I'm headed to
someone else's studio I sure appreciate being able to see a comprehensive gear list and some informative photos.

It's been a while since I've done a refresh on www.cowboytechnical.com

I always wrestle with providing as much info as possible vs having a streamlined look.

So,
1. any cool recording studio sites you've seen lately?

2. what do you like to see in a recording studio website? More info? Less info? Vibed up pictures or pics of the work space?

Good questions. My site is still running on the same framework I built in 2003? Funny to look at how many standards have changed since then. Especially, lots of links are no longer a thing. I need to do a total rebuild too. I took my equipment list down as no one seems to care other than other studios that want to ask if something is cool.

I usually just look at the photos section first. I think yours looks good BTW. Simple, easy to get around.

One more thing on my endless to do list...

I have to learn Yahoos "wordpress" and other things, like GIMP, etc.

This guy is local to me. I have had a tour of his studio and I think his website does it credit.

Pictures speak louder than words, as they say. But there is still a fair bit of technical detail about his studio.

I also like some pictures and info about what's there, who's there, etc. But I like it fairly simple and not too cluttered too. Lot's of menus (or worse multi-tiered menus) are hard to navigate and won't get much action with the 3-second attention span that is today...

One other important design aspect for today's largely mobile world is to make sure that you can view your website on a mobile device (tablet or phone). I hate looking at websites on my phone, but is a reality for folks that are younger than me...

Eric - I think your website looks great on a computer browser, but it was hard to read on my phone (Android). "Modern" web sites can detect IOS or Android and resize automatically so that the user can view text and photos, and menu choices if there are any. A site that does not do this may also get lower rankings from the search engines.

I didn't look at all the others on my phone, because as mentioned earlier I don't really enjoy that so I only do it when I don't have another choice...

Eric, your site looks good on a laptop, I didn't check it on my phone, but yeah as digitaldrummer said, gotta make sure it looks at least presentable on a phone, I had a few hangups there when I redid my site a couple years ago.

I mainly want to see pix of the room(s). ESPECIALLY if it's a mastering studio. Any mastering studio that doesn't have at least one decent pic of the room, I assume they're working out of a spare bedroom and it's not a real legit mastering room (Archive is as legit as you can get!).

I don't think anyone cares about the gear used in mastering (pretty much no one ever asks me), but if I were looking at recording studios as either an artist or an engineer, I'd wanna see a list of the gear.

More info vs streamlined is always going to be something of a battle, I'd probably err on the side of streamlined and/or try and convey as much info as possible via pix rather than text.

Stupid pet peeve: any studio site that uses the phrase "take your music to the next level". UGH. They might as well say "you've tried the rest now try the best!"
