I absolutely love this machine and hope to spread the love with it! Does anyone else have any opinions on this gem? I know there's a whole debate about the 15 ips and 30 ips hopefully I don't ruffle any feathers in here.

Cheers,
Mario

I had one and thought the cost to use it didn’t match my sound quality expectations. But if you like it, that’s no problem to me. I’m a bigger fan of the 388, much cheaper to use and sometimes I like that sound.

I worked on one more than in pro tools between 2001-2003. Then got another in 2009, but didn't get it up to running until 2011-2015. Both were the 15 ips version (you know, the best version) I've made many records on that machine. Either purely in analog world, or tracking on it and then dumping into PT. Noted, between 2001-2015, I was working in PT LE or version 6, using either a digi 001 or 888's. So hitting the MS-16 actually made things sound "better" than going straight to PT. I sold the MS-16 to afford a used HD2 rig, and was completely grateful, for the converters sounded much better as well as plug in and automatic delay compensation made mixing fun again. I'm still on PT version 9. I do miss aspects of tape, for it's what I learned on. But even if I track at places with a 2", I don't bother anymore.

I have to add, I was using older GP9 and ATR 1" tape. ATR had issues with the slitting of their tape or the bonding process and caused so much frustration with the mess it would leave on the heads since it was rubbing wrong in the tape path or something, it was extremely frustrating. Having to clean the heads every 5 minutes. Seems by 2012 their product was much better and less troublesome than it was in the earlier days.
