Which convolution reverb do you use, and do you need a different program to create the impulse?

I use the Waves IR plug but really only because it was on the house computer at the studio I used to co-own and it was a known commodity when it came time to buy something for my own system. It works just fine but there are probably lots of others that do too.
It comes with a 96k WAV sweep file and detailed instructions for making your own IRs. Once you've run the sweep trough your space, device, whatever you can load it via the plug in and it will create an IR and pre-set . It's pretty easy and painless.

That's really cool. I have the Audio Thing Fog Convolver and I'd like to make a few custom IRs. There's a bathroom at one of the universities that is AMAZING. I was thinking of concert halls as well.

t's a really fun and useful thing to start collecting your own reverbs. Sampling rooms when you do location work is also really, really helpful. I mixed a record 5 or 6 years ago that was recorded in a ballroom outside of Berlin. Everything was mic'd close and with multiple room mics. We mostly used the distant mics for everything but on some quiet sources the noise was too much to make the track usable. I had the producer sample the room using all of the room mic configurations. Having that let us convincingly fake the room on those quiet sources. It really saved the day.
And now I also use those IR samples all the time on other projects.

i'm using a 1980 Roland RV-100 (same as the Boss RX-100, just re-badged), it's a nice unit and is quiet. i like it a lot better than the Fostex 3180 i used to own.
