recorded a violin yesterday...

Post by digitaldrummer » Wed Nov 30, 2022 6:13 am

I recorded a violin yesterday. Honestly this was the first time I had done it in my studio. The violinist was seated while playing, so I set up a pair of Samar Audio AL-95 (which are some of the most natural sounding ribbon mics I've ever used). I placed them in a spaced pair about a foot in front and about a foot over her head, pointing down at about a 45 degree angle and toward the center of the instrument. Sort of a hybrid between drum overheads and an acoustic guitar setup. Anyway, I was very happy with the way it turned out. On playback it sounds very much like it did when sitting next to her when she was playing so I can't ask for much more than that!
