is there delay plugin like a delta lab effectron?

Post by joninc » Sat Apr 15, 2023 12:51 pm

I have many delay plugins and pedals and some tape echos - but nothing quite like a effectron - googling led me nowhere - any one know of anything close?

I like using the PSP 42.

https://www.pspaudioware.com/products/lexicon-psp-42

If you note, the Effectron only has a set number of delays, just punch those in, and work the feedback. for "infinite loop" you can just set the feedback until it keeps going.

1, 4, 16, 64 and 256 mS delays.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

If you ever find one let me know. The effectron is a favorite of mine. I've got 2 in the rack and they gat a fair bit of use. So much of the fun with them is hands on and tactile though. I don't know how you'd replicate that.
Nick, yes there are fixed delay times but the delay factor control that lets you dial in anything in between the set delay times.
Also, a big draw is the limiter. If you punch the delay buttons so none are selected you can access the limiter without delay. Instant David Fridman drum sounds.

Don’t they do a little pitch shift as well?

Not so much. The modulation section give you chorus and flange sounds and then very quickly gets into bonkers territory.

Everyone covered the factual stuff I was going to say. So I'll simply add that I love that box. When I was working with a songwriter on his mostly straight forward Americana album he kept wanting to push some parts into weirder sonic territory. Everything I came up with that he loved had the effectron in it somewhere. He noticed and nearly named the album Effectron.

Right, flange is what I was thinking of. I recall a snare sound on a Bowie record (Low) being cited where the pitch of the snare hits changed randomly due to the flanger. Sweet but subtle. Can you point to a Fembots track where I can hear it in action?

I think the Bowie record is an Eventide Harmonizer.

I'm trying to think of a record that I really leaned into the Effectron with...... Maybe the organ in the second part of this tune?

Also, the drums in the middle of this one have a heavy dose of limoter and delay from the Effectron -

I've been able to get pretty whacky things with a PCM41 by abusing the modulation section.

I just sold one an effectron to help with some stupid debt, but still have one in the rack that I'll always hold onto. They're lovely units.

Seems I tend to be using the SoundToys EchoBoy a lot lately in places where I'd normally be using the Effectron. The EchoBoy has a fuck-ton of different parameters and flavors that can be selected, it's a pretty bad ass plug in.

Have you checked out the PSP 42 as mentioned above. The Effectron layout is pretty similar to the Lexis and I always thought it was meant to be a 41/42 "inspired" unit.

PSP just did a big revamp of the PCM42 plugin.

Here's the video they just sent out.
