Monoprice tube mic for $120?

Post by digitaldrummer » Mon May 01, 2023 9:42 am

anyone try this thing yet? At $120 for a tube-mic (circuit which is apparently similar to the old Apex 460) it seems pretty easy to mod (and there is a ton of info out there already on the 460, TCM1050, etc). Heck I've modded quite a few of the 1050's already (to the same specs as the AA CM47).

I'm very tempted...

I'd recommend getting a pair, and modding them.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Holy SHID that's a lot of kit for that price. I'm trying to NOT buy a pair at that price.

This does kind of seems like a modders dream. Even just getting the shell, shockmount, psu and case for that price to build whatever you wanted.

I really don't need any more mics right now myself so I only posted it in case I could tempt someone else to check it out and report back.

That is very hard to resist. Had to find a PSU for a DIY a couple years ago and you approach the price just there.

Wow. I just checked out the rest of the MonoPrice website. So much cheap crap that is begging for me to just take a chance on. HA!
Like this is just screaming "FUN!" and if it ever dips below $200, I'll check one out. I've got a few different 12" speakers laying around that I could swap out.

My only MonoPrice experience was grabbing one of these when they were on sale for $125 and free shipping about two-three years ago. I got it for my Juno 106, and it's perfect for that.

You can also get these at Harbor Freight, and may be able to get it cheaper with some sort of coupon deal plus sale.

I have a lot of monoprice stuff. Cables are a pretty good deal.

I also have the 50 watt tube amp head, on sale it wasn’t much more than the amp you linked. I like the clean channel, which was my goal.

I've got the Monoprice boundary/pzm mics that I can't find on the site and a bunch of these headphones.
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=8323
And if you go the homepage, there's a 20% off $50 or more purchase with the code EXTRA 20

Harbour Freight is great for cases for mics as well. I have a few from them.

Interesting, and cheap! Are they "good enough for tracking" headphones?
