Tascam Mystery Part
Tascam Mystery Part
As anyone who's ever opened up a 388 will know the track arm indicators LEDs (amongst others) are held in place by white things that clip to the PCB. I need to replace several of mine but I've no idea what to look for. Does anyone know? If they're not commercially available could I get some 3D printed?

Re: Tascam Mystery Part
It's unlikely that it's a generic, readily-available part, but I could be wrong. 3D printing is an option.
Which particular PCB are we looking at in this image? Have you looked in the service manual to see what they call this part?

Re: Tascam Mystery Part
The service manual lists the part as a SOCKET CONNECTOR 3024-2AH, with TEAC/Tascam part number 5122373000. This part also appears in the Tascam 122mkII and the Tascam 112. I was doubtful that TEAC would still have any in their parts inventory, but I just called them and they confirmed that it has been "discontinued with no replacement."
How many of them do you need? I could mock up a design and print some for you. If you're interested, contact me so we can discuss the fee: https://recdel.com/contact

Re: Tascam Mystery Part
I need five. A guy I know might actually have some lying around. And I'm really surprised it's not a generic part.
I guess being plastic and small they wouldn't cost much to post.

Re: Tascam Mystery Part
Looks like a little Molex style plug. Repurposed as an LED standoff? I'd bet you could print something that does basically the same thing pretty easily, nothing magic about the exact shape.
EDIT or just carve out of wood.

Re: Tascam Mystery Part
I checked the Tascam Ninja site before calling Tascam, but didn't see any of these there (unless the OP was buying the full PCB that included them).markjazzbassist wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:42 amhttps://www.tascamninja.com/

Ordered five plus a pack of red LEDs from RS Components (https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/pcb-sockets/2965072). If they're not the right part they're cheap enough that it doesn't really hurt my bank balance.

Pretty much how the game is played, what I call "catalog time". Either buy everything that looks close and put the rest in your library, or be fanatical with measurements and downloading the technical drawings. Or both.Mark wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 2:12 pmOrdered five plus a pack of red LEDs from RS Components (https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/pcb-sockets/2965072). I couldn't find any schematics with dimensions. If you can, post a link below. Cheers

Just right down the page a little way:
https://www.molex.com/content/dam/molex ... pdf?inline
It's not ideal, since a lot of different connectors (numbers of pins) are shown. But it gives the spacing and the height, which seems like exactly what you'd need.

Re: Tascam Mystery Part
Replacement Molex sockets arrived today. Look like a perfect match for the ones already on the board.
Miscalculated LED diameters. Had to order smaller ones. Oops.

Looking over the backstory here - it sounds like you're a prime candidate for a basic set of digital calipers. Easy way to verify measurements before ordering.
I've got a fancy set at the office for "official work", but also 3 sets of ~$20 ones between the home workbench and my traveling tools. Even the cheap ones are plenty good enough to verify I'm ordering the right part.
