Anyone using ethernet cable for analog audio?
My studio is shrinking in size. Do I really want three different drop snakes running across the floor? Especially the 75'-100' 16/24 input snakes I currently own. Anyone using ethernet cable for analog connection between iso booths and live room to your patch bay? It's way cheaper to have a custom length of CAT5/6/7 cable than having RedCo solder up a handful of multi-pair snakes if I were to ditch the long johns I currently have.
A few of these, one in the iso booth, two out in the main room, 24 channels is pretty much all I'd be using for any tracking situation.

throw these on the other end.

Getting pretty common these days. I've even sent ClearCom old-style Partyline comms over a spare Cat5. At work we have lots of rugged Ethercon cables and snakes since everything is going Dante.

Shouty Canadian Metal production youtuber Glenn Fricker recommends it

Dante is fucking amazing. Doing more and more broadcast work, I'm seeing it's wonders.

Re: Anyone using ethernet cable for analog audio?
I’m using Radial Catapults live.
Can’t say enough wonderful stuff about audio over cat5.
That said you have to be thoughtful of phantom power. If you wanna throw phantom down any of those channels you need to ensure you get a special cat5 cable for the handling of +48v.
I bought a couple of those for my live recording rig; they’re working like a charm.
As someone who enjoys the practice of soldering and dressing cables… I’m not Lilley to go AoE for my next home studio build… but I’ll def run and AoE line to the other rooms of the house as tie lines.

Likely will just coil my 100' 16 channel snake behind the racks, and run how much I need, and then run an 8 channel CAT box to the iso, since the previous 8 channel snake for the previous iso isn't long enough.alexdingley wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 9:34 amI’m using Radial Catapults live.

No. But have been using Dante and it is so much better than older formats. More stable too.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.
