Yes, most of the use Shure Beta 52a's out there are fake too. They sound pretty close, but not quite as good as a real one (I had both). There are ways to tell the difference, but it's subtle. I would not recommend buying ANY Shure mics used unless you can verify they are legit. Otherwise the only way to know is buy new from a reputable dealer (and this is exactly what Shure told me when I tried to report several sellers with fakes- they didn't even care because they know they've lost control of their design. and that was at least 5 years ago).

Also heard there are a lot of fake U87's out there now so be careful.
