Reco me some loud cans
Reco me some loud cans
We jam and record using amp simulators for guitars and bass, in the same room with a mic'd kit.
We are having problem getting enough level from the headphones to get over the kit.
I know all the arguments why not, but what I want is the loudest, most isolating cans so the guitarists and bassist can better hear our selves over the full kit, which is in the same room, and less than 10' away.
I just blew my Samson headphones using the little Rolls 4-headphone amp

Re: Reco me some loud cans
The best iso I ever got in "cans" was soundblocking earbuds under home depot ear protection ear muffs. But it's not comfortable.

These Vic Firth isolating headphones work pretty good.
We use them to keep the drummer's click from bleeding into the overheads. Sometimes with a singer in the booth who's got them cranked.

In ear monitors might be the best solution. I have Westones that have foam tips that are just like my foam earplugs. They come in different sizes for different ears and once you find the one each person likes, the foam parts can be replaced as the get worn out.
Re: Reco me some loud cans
I'm not all concerned about bleed from the cans - I'm trying to monitor guitars, bass, vox while playing next to a stoned and strong drummer.
The drums bleeding into the cans are loud ...
I'm not too concerned with sound quality - what I want is to be able to hear good enuff to play to the bass, and the other guitar, and hear myself sing.
That said, I thought I blew a driver in the Samson cans I have; turns out the driver un-glued itself in the earpiece so I epoxied it back - could be some of my issues were that - doya's think?

Second the recommendation for IEM's. Protect your hearing, don't play with super loud headphones to get over drum leakage!

This might also be an application where a more capable headphone amp will make a obvious difference?
"What fer?"

The Vic Firth isolation headphones stop sound coming in also.vvv wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 8:35 amI'm not all concerned about bleed from the cans - I'm trying to monitor guitars, bass, vox while playing next to a stoned and strong drummer.

Re: Reco me some loud cans
Look at some Sony MDR 7506. Unless you have yuge honking ears, then some AKG like K240.
And then, drive them with a nice and loud headphone amplifier. Even a Samson S-phone will do nicely.

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Re: Reco me some loud cans
I always used the Extreme Isolation EX-29 when tracking drums - because they do block out some of the drums. but I never really liked the bass response in those cans so it may not be what you are looking for. I think the Vic FIrth ISO cans are even worse though (as far as bass response - they do block out a lot of sound)

Without trying to be judgy?
What I see here is a fellow with a "Baffle..."/"Drum Shield..." problem, and not a guy with a "Headphones..." problem.
There's some phones that will help with this, but knocking the actual sound coming from the kit down seems like it would go further as far as solving the problem that it feels like you are describing.

Have a friend who laid this approach out almost exactly.Snarl 12/8 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 11:12 pmThe best iso I ever got in "cans" was soundblocking earbuds under home depot ear protection ear muffs. But it's not comfortable.
Also not a super expensive thing to attempt.
Seems like one could even do a trial run with just a garden variety set of ear buds along with the hearing protection gear.

Re: Reco me some loud cans
Thanx, all y'all!
I ordered the little Mackie headphone 4ch amp which hopefully is an improvement on the 10 y.o. Rolls I have, even if only because the sliders and jacks are dirty on the latter. Pretty bad when the Caig struggles to clean the jacks ...
I also bought a pair of Tascam TH-02 because they are cheap and if they work well enuff I'll buy 3 more pairs so we all have the same ... around-ears should help.
I love 7506's, have gone through 3 pairs already, but have learned to really like the MDR 150's to track in my bedio. I tend to turn the 7506's up too high ...
I have been using some old Samson HP10 cans I rec'd for free when I bought my Zoom SR16 - thought I blew them this weekend but what happened was the driver came unglued inside the earpiece - I think I fixed 'em. Hadda use Panduit straps as the headband slider restraint broke where the headband goes in to the earpiece.
The Ultraphones are a little pricey ... and comfort is also important.
As for gobo's, there ain't no room:
