Okay fine. This is what I look like:
The reason I don't post under my actual name (Wangtaur Von Wizardforce), is because I'm a crime fighter from the netherworld. There. It's out. Touch my butt.

Re: your last post
My 2 cents:
I've been lucky enough to work with some great engineers. I'm a musician first and formost, but I've had the recording bug for a long time. The thing that has struck me about MOST of the "Serious" engineers (i.e. lots of knowledge and access to lots of gear) I have worked with is thier willingness to share with me while not being hung up on one piece of gear or the other. Many times I've had it in my head that I had to have a particular mic pre or something...absolutely convinced that it I NEEDED only to have a sagely engineer say something like: "Yeah, those sound good, but you would learn more by trying to get the sounds you want with this cheaper gear. Then when you get around to buying that Vintage Neve API 1176 Calrec Blah you'll know what to do with it."
Ok...so I've wandered from the main topic here, but my point is that every point of view is valid. I've definitely taken some things from Jeff's thread, but I'm also a guy on a budget, and I want to know how other psuedo-engineers like me are going about solving the same problems that the "serious" guys are. So...if you want to post with your full name, great, but your "career status" doesn't value or devalue your perspective to me. I'm just here to learn and share everything I can.
Peace,

the rest of us are just pissed we didn't rates PM's from Jeff
Re: your last post
i don't mind the name thing...i mean my name is mike mcdonald and who the hell cares...a lot of the guys who do use their names try building themselves up online and i think that's pretty hilarious.
i don't think jeff qualifies as that though i can see why some would take offense to his 'use a neve or api answers' well you know what? the unfortunate thing is i have some 1272's and 312's and api eq's and while it's a limited answer...it's also pretty on the mark from what i can hear...except i think 312's sound pretty ratty next to hardy's.
the gang up on people thing sucks. it's always gone on since people started showing up here. it's always the same 3 or 4 engineers who consider themselves in the know at whatever time...unfortunately and ironically usually on the 'pro' side who give peeps a hard time here. it shows how insecure some people are...that they have to try to knock someone's opinion down to make themselves bigger online? retarded. get a life already.

ps - that man horse thing is the funniest thing i have seen in weeks...i'm crying!

This is the most rampant example of centaurism I've seen in a long time. Moderators, please - surely our forums should be free from such outbursts?!?bigtoe wrote:ps - that man horse thing is the funniest thing i have seen in weeks...i'm crying!

Re: your last post
My real name is Baron Klein von Roterhai, thankyouverymuch.
As for needing a lunchbox full of API's to get a 'good' sound - i say pish! pshaw! posh! What twaddle!
The truly great engineer can get a great sound from a Radio Shack mic and a tin can - it's all in how you use it.
Even the most lowly gear available these days is more than adequate of doing great recordings. Don't let anyone tell you different. Even I am guilty of getting on the elite gear wagon every now and again. Then someone comes along who just completely, utterly schools me on how to get great sound from 'crap' gear.
On the other hand, Jeff has been a great contributor, so cut him some slack. I think he suffers, like I do, from a severe case of idealism.

America... just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.

Yeah, I know.... I can't help it, though. This summer has been wiener heaven. Or hell, depending. Either way, there's been a crapload of wieners eaten.XXGABEXX wrote:You sold out burritos for wieners? Chummmmmmm-p.trashy wrote:lover of good veggie hotdogs or any hotdog that is in the vicinity.

-Swingdoc- say "hi" to your brood to, friend. How's the new one? If you ever feel like selling it, let me know. I know people who know people. I'm two degrees of separation away from Gene Simmons.
