best wayto hook a compressor to a 2 buss mix without inserts

Post by Jordan.Walker » Sun Oct 17, 2004 12:00 am

i want to put an rnc compressor on my stereo mix going out of my yamaha pm1000 board. how do i do this without any inserts? the board doesn't have any. ?if i just attach it to
the line outs of the board before going to 2 track, how do i monitor the
compression? ?or should i put the compressor in ?first ?from the line
out of the a/d converter, then to the mixer, then to tape?

also, is it worth buying a standalone cd burner, or should i just
bring the mix from the board back into protools and create a stereo
file.?

thanks.

You could just monitor the two-track...

Keep in mind also that the RNC is anything but RN on the mix bus according to most that have tried...

Boy was I sure happy when I finally got a board with stereo mix inserts... It was always a hassel monitoring the two track. I had to adjust the monitor volume at the power amp... pain in the axe.

I can't believe any board wouldn't have inserts, but I guess it's common.

hook it up in line between the console and the 2 track and monitor out the 2 track...if your board can't monitor the 2 track take the outs from your two track and input those to your monitor/monitor amp

instead of assigning everything to your L/R mix, bus everything to an extra stereo group and use the group inserts or something similar.

this will only work if youre not using lots of grouping already

i hate inserting...drives me bonkers...dig the direct route...also can't stand the two-track thing on a board....way prefer going out of the thing i'm mixing to...always sounds different to me.

should have never started on a 1604! all those options just bug me! haha..
