no, the MOTU card doesn't have the ADAT inputs - the breakout box does.

Another vote for the motu 2408/pci324 (you need both :))

Also, RME 9652 or HDSP9652. Frontier dakota/montana cards are also pretty good but I haven't used them.

I just bought an Emu 1820m. One of the best sounding cards I've heard yet. The converters are great. Its a little finicky to get working though and the drivers are not very mature yet.

well, if he's using the ADAT lightpipe, then whatever converters the card has won't matter. That connection is only for moving the ones and zeros to and from the 'puter. The device at the other end has to do the converting.

The latest Gina has Adat Lightpipe, 2 balanced ins with pres, and six balanced outs. for $350, you could have a ten in, fourteen out system that would be also be easy to use as a simple desktop demo situation, too. You could also use the propriatary PureWave drivers and bypass some windows foo-fah.

just my humble opinion.

A truly Quality interface for you that runs with ASIO drivers, has lightpipe, and great pre's would be the Metric-halo 2882+DSP. It costs more, but it is truly more useable, and sounds better than anything else out there.

the 24-bit Gina and Layla from Echo also had ADAT lightpipe hookups, so now that they've released the new versions at a lower price, you can pick up the older versions pretty inexpensively.

(I just got a 20-bit Gina [no lightpipe] for $50 on eBay, as an emergency replacement for a dead Layla).

I live off my Lexicon Core2. I got it on e-bay for < $100 and it was worth every penny. The only issue is, it dosent work with any OS greater than win98 (which I dont mind at all.)

this is one of those times i'm glad i perused the forum before posting a question, because i was going to ask for the same advice - i have a 16 track ADAT setup, and i want to find a card that will let me import/export the ADAT tracks into the computer, but also has its own "in"s...

there's an RME on eBay right now, and i've considered the 2408...anyone have any experience with the STUDI/O cards at all? that's the only other one i've seen that looks like it would fit my expectations, spec-wise.

i'm not familiar with the EMU cards at all....
