what about having a NEW forum for...

Post by frank » Sun Jan 16, 2005 12:26 pm

...issues that aren't quite "general recording" questions? I feel like there have been a number of great questions posted that didn't really fit in our eight forums(maybe we need an INSTRUMENT TECH forum?):

"why are my pickups make funny noises?", "what do you all think of this instrument manufacturer?...", "how do I get my guitar to sound like ______'s guitar?", "electronics...", "strings...", "tunings for lap steel", "baritone guitars", "why is my amp is making funny noises?", "what do you all think of this amp manufacturer?", "basic repair and maintainance", "tubes...", "speakers..."

with our combined vast wealth of knowledge and experiences we could create an awesome place to UTFSF. right?

My take on that is traffic on a new board wouldn't be as high as on general recording, and so long as those kinds of posts aren't bugging anyone, they're probably better off posted here. What we need is a better FSF to U.

I'd agree in principal, what features would you suggest to improve it Ubertar?
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away.

In addition to the traffic reason Ubertar mentions, I think all those issues are definitely recording issues. Including things like how to fix a leaky basement, how to build a decent gobo, etc. In my mind, the best way to get a sound is to actually make that sound and then record it. If your guitar is sounding crappy, it's better to fix it than to figure out how to trick the listener into thinking it sounds good.
not to worry, just keep tracking....

Call me dumb but WTF if FSF to U???

I like seeing posts that "dont fit". It makes the site more interesting. If it was becoming so common that the posts that fit were being lost... that would be another issue. I just don't think it is an issue.

One of the reasons I stopped hanging out at DIGI's DUC as much was because they started moving or deleting OT posts. Someone started complaining and away went post of every subjuct from complete BS to discussions about latency. We all know that latency on a DAW is way OT (Don't miss the sarcasam.)

So I'd vote that we UTFSF and enjoy the diversity of BS that shows up here. Gets kinda borring otherwise.

Exact phrase matching. That would do the trick.

Exactly. There's no way to search a phrase... if you wanted to search "small diaphragm condenser" you'd get back results for small + results for diaphragm + results for condenser. That sucks.

TFSF sucks ass

Basic Advanced Search

Find results:
with all of the words...
with the exact phrase...
with at least one of the words...
without the words...

Using "quotes" and + don't seem to function. WTF

I say start a new forum for hot studio beaver...

Just tried that... the results are odd... only diaphragm and condenser are highlighted, and I'm getting some results that only have condenser, w/o the other two.

Good call, there's the search all terms, but like you both say, there's no exact phrase matching, nail on the head there, that really would be useful.
