I'll work backwards...

MOTU 828 into iMac w/ MOTU's free software

Studio Projects C1
2 SM57s
2 or 3 various cheap dynamics with on/off switches
Stolen PA speaker for my bass drum mic
I've been using the 828's preamps for years, but just last week I dropped $100 on a tiny little Yamaha mixer that so far looks great sitting there.

'67 Fender Dual Showman w/ 2x15 cabinet - on lay-a-way for over a year, literally.
Marshall Plexi reissue w/ JCM900 4x12
Vox Pathfinder - arrives Thursday - Thank you mpm and all you TapeOppers

'72 Gibson SG - I call it the "plain" model
'66 Fender Musicmaster II
'6? Fender Muscimaster bass
Washburn acoustic - some cheap model, but I did find a pre Page-Plant reunion ad with Robert Plant endorsing it!!
Mystery archtop I found for $75
1948 Supro electric lap steel - nobody wants these old things unless they say Fender or Gibson on them, so hurry up and buy one before they become hip and expensive
MicroKorg
Roland MC-303
Kawai KC-20 - on permanent loan from co-worker
Farfisa mini-compact - just got eBay for a song!

Ludwig drum kit - put together via the various pawn shops 'round town

A crate full of various pedals that I "inherited" from some friends - a bunch of which need fixing
And last, but not least, my coveted RE-201 Space Echo

Out of all this stuff I only saved money and flat-out paid full price for the MOTU interface. Everything else was a trade, was left at my house, was bought on lay-a-way, still resides on my credit cards, was a gift or was just bought for extra cheap over the past 10 years or so. I think I've finally got everything I want. Now I need to just put it to use.

Behringer Tube Ultra-Q two channel EQ...I took out the cheap Sovteks, put in some Groove Tubes, and it actually sounds fairly decent. And my midi controller...Casio all the way, baby. Behringer Truth monitors, Cakewalk Sonar2, and the best mic I've ever used...Shure Beta 57.

tascam unbalanced patchbay
digitech 256 xl effects processor
behringer autocom mdx 1000 compressor/limiter

bellari RP503 tube pre/compressor/eq
lexicon core2 (well, no longer in my rack or in use, but it's my first DAW and still sitting around, i'm meaning to sell it)
palatino violin

It's actually a pretty cool thread to resurrect though. I'm going to put a list of crap on here later. Now though I have to go make some useful suggestions to a band that's recording in a studio with floor-standing hi-speakers as the main monitors and the only comp's a 3630.

I'm glad this thread is back up. I always felt bad about not posting to it, and I've really needed to get some things off of my chest.

The nicest thing I own is a Mac g4 400 mhz with an m-audio Delta 44. Sold to me for WAY under its value by fellow tapeopper thearnicasync. Thanks, Kelly!

I also own a pretty nice Ampeg tube guitar amp. It's at the practice space so I don't remember the number. I've seen pictures of Keith from around the time of "Exile on Main Street" playing through one. I love it. I love all of my stuff. The rest is as follows:

Studio Projects b1
DIY Tape Op Omni (2)
Shure sm57 (2)
Shure sm58
Radio Shack Omni boundary mic

Tascam 106 Six-channel mixer with two channels that don't work

Fender Telecaster (squire from like '92)
Checkmate 16 solid state amp (as sold by Montgomery Wards. This amp is bitchin' when coupled with the tele and turned up LOUD)
Peavey kb 60 bass/keyboard amp
Lotus bass
Roland Juno-60 (actually this should have gone in the "nice stuff" section: it cost over $100)
Norma Drum set ('60's japanese Pearl knockoff, in blue sparkle)

Phew, I feel a lot better. Thanks!

This I can dig.

The most humble set-up

No Mixer.
Computer (a real Frankenstien built over two years)
One Digidesign Mbox for PTLE 6.1 with a few plugs
two mic stands
One Studio projects B1
One Sennhieser e845
One Rode NT1a
One FMR audio RNC

Moving blankets for acoustical treatment
and a Bathroom/live room

And I have been able to make enough for rent on television work.

In some ways my favorite setup remains my second one, a hot-rodded 4-track setup.

Tascam 244 (old kind, big and chunky with colored knobs)
Mackie 1202 connected to the Tascam's effect returns & direct tape outs
AKG 414, C1000

Basically, I had the 4-track and a basic dynamic mic, and decided to upgrade the mic instead of the record deck. Got the 414, but then needed phantom power, eventually got the 1202. Pretty amazing, really, how well that setup worked. The deck itself sounded really good as long as you didn't rely on the preamps and mixer. The thin, cutting sound of the Mackie sorta worked well with the mushy sound of cassette tape.

Of course my current computer setup is way better in lots of ways, but i definitely had to give up certain great qualities to get certain other ones.
