I read somewhere that LD microphones get muddy or blurry at a distance. Is there any truth to this?
I mean, they get used for such thing as room mics, electrics and acoustics at quite a distance any many more things.
Large Diaphragm Mics muddy At A Distance?
Re: Large Diaphragm Mics muddy At A Distance?
I don't think so. I've never found that myself, and many purist classical recordings are made with LD mics as the main stereo pair or cluster, and I doubt they'd be okay with muddiness.

Compared to small-diaphragm mics, LDs will not have quite the precision or clean off-axis response.

That's interesting, I've always found just the opposite -LDCs always sound better at least 1' away from source.

Correct, but this is not dependent on distance from source.AGCurry wrote:Compared to small-diaphragm mics, LDs will not have quite the precision or clean off-axis response.
