CDRW700 / DA-20

Post by q1w2e3r4 » Wed Jan 21, 2004 6:55 pm

Which do you suppose would be better to mix to? These are my two options at the moment, a Tascam CDRW700 CD burner and a Tascam DA-20MKII DAT machine. I'm mixing this week and already have the CDR700, but someone offered me the DA-20 for cheap and I'd like to know what you think. I'm mixing from analog tape, by the way.

I think I read someone on here saying something about the newer Tascam burners having converters superior to those in a DAT machine. Am I dreaming?

Anyway, thanks for your time.

I'd mix to the CDR. The media is cheaper, the converters may not be better but they won't be any worse, and you'll have an easier time transfering to a computer for editing and cleanup. If you have a use for it, it might not hurt to pick up the cheap DAT machine so you have it for the future, but I hardly ever used any of my DAT recorders except for occasionally transfering from DAT to CD.

Thanks, Professor. The masters are going straight to the mastering engineer. I guess I should ask him which he prefers.

What do you mix to?
