One of the greatest name's I've seen:

The TampOffs

I think I fell over laughing in the middle of a crowded street.

My brother's old band name was a tad short lived back in the mid-sixty's...

Pontious Pilate and his Nail Drivin' Five

I really didn't need to know there's a band named Fudge Tunnel.

Back in high school in the late 80s, the top of the local heap metal band was named...

Stark Raven

Their only close competition was the band Sweet Cheater. Of course, the guys in my band, Killer Gonad Boys, mockingly referred to them as Cheap Sweater.

Oooof.

I like some of their stuff, but I have always hated that name. And any "sentence" band names.

i've always loved that as a bandname, never could get into the music tho... i was disappointed. i wanted to really like them just b/c i like the name so much.

then again, i'm in a band with a 'sentence' for a name. so i'm into that kinda thing.

my vote for best/worst band name:
'El Diablo and the Screaming White Trash'

or maybe
INSANE CLOWN POSSE... just lame

I've kinda decided that almost all band names are kinda dumb taken out of context....the difference seems to usually come down to whether you like the band or not for me. I can HATE a name of aband and then, once I get to liking them, it doesn't stick out so much or my judgement is clouded by the association to the good music.

Other than that, I hereby nominate my own band....

the first band i was ever in was called Vital Signs. It really doesn't get worse than that. Hey, I joined after the band was together. Of course I was in other poorly named bands after that, but in 1987, when I was barely a teen, it all started.

I think Heylow has a point. Taking names out of context kinda makes 'em all sound silly. But then again, I play under the name "Radical Face," so I have no right to point fingers. I actually like stupid names.

I've never liked the name "Death Cab For Cutie" though. Even in a dumb way.
I am wangtacular.

There was a ska band (from Cincinnati, I think) called Pontious Pilate & The Naildrivers.

Maybe it's just me but using numbers in your band name seems like a bad idea:
Assemblage 23
Death Ride 69
Blink 182
Fishtank #9 (local)

Using "God" in the name and trying to be too clever about it:
Godhead
God Lives Underwater
Godflesh

I also find the misspelled band names and names with extranneous punctuation marks in weird places pretentious and very annoying.

How about Anal Cunt? That has got to be one of the worst and best bands names all at once.
