i was thinking of trying to do the calibration myself. has anyone done this? is it difficult? i doubt there's anywhere in town i could get it done professionally. the closest place is probably seattle, which is a 5 hour drive. seems like the drive itself would be rocky on its own. should i make the drive or do it myself? has anyone converted their 388 to use 456 tape instead? it's definetely more abundant than the 457 tape.

All I use is 456. It's been my understanding that it's the same formula but a different thickness. The only negative result I've seen is that the auto-stop at the end of the tape doesn't work. This usualy isn't a problem for me.

The 388 on ebay is awsome! I have the same drum machine too! I payed $500 for mine with no extras And I feel like it was a good price.

band i'm in just recorded demo stuff on 388 for the hek of it. the room was small but we got some great sound. stereo room on 2 tracks, snare track, bass drum track, floor + rack tom together on one track, 2 gtr tracks, 1 bass track. then we mixed down to stereo tracks on a 488 cassette and we're gonna do 2 tracks of vocals on remaining tracks to finish. sounds very cool and big so far, super low end. 388 rules.

does anyone know the link for the 388 discussion group. is that on the tascam site?

thanks

From what I understand the Tascam forums ( yes all of them) have been taken down.

Don't know why.

but why be jealous and cold when you can share in the depth and warmth?

*you know, you can cut me off. but you can't cut off the memories.*

 you just have to try even harder to convince me to move.
