Jimi Hendrix, "1983" may be the hookiest riff ever. I love Jimi's version of it. There's also a version by Christian Death with Gitane Demone that kicks booteh.

Any Gang of Four guitar part is going to be incredible. In particular the feedback solo at the beginning of Anthrax stands out.

I have to say, Marc Ribot's solo on Jockey Full of Burbon off of Tom Waits' Rain Dogs. What a tone.

All of the guitars on "the rest of the day" on Bedhead's Beheaded album.

and a mick taylor moment to be selected daily.

Greg Ginn's opening line on Black Flag's "Nervous Breakdown". Or was it Dez? I don't actually know.

Rick McCollum's slide solo towards the end of "Let Me Lie To You" on Afghan Whig's "Congregation". It sends some serious chills up my spine EVERY time I hear it. If you haven't heard it.... hear it.

Oh, and the main riff from Archers Of Loaf's "Scenic Pastures".
I'm goin' to the store, anybody need anything?

Anyone mention the riffs of Thin Lizzy yet?

'Ballad of a hard man' off "Fighting" was a great tone. Snare rattle and all! 'It's only Money' from the Ron Nevison produced album "Nightlife" has an amazing stock Marshall half-stack beauty. Articulation of the dual solos on 'Emerald' from "Jailbreak" was stellar. Chris Tsangarides' rhythm guitar tones of Snowy White and Scott Gorham on the whole of the "Renegade" album were fantastic.

IMHO the best Thin Lizzy ever sounded was on the double live album "Live and Dangerous".Great all round band performances.Recorded by Tony Visconti.

Absolutely... or the into to the LZ song on 'Presence' "Nobodies Fault But Mine"... or perhaps the solo in the Zappa song "Cosmic Debris" off 'Apostrophe'... maybe the solo in the Joe Walsh song 'County Fair' from "So What"... the intro part to "AC/DC"s 'You Shook Me'... "VooDoo Chile" anyone?

Either of Elmore James's licks [?!?!?!?!]...

the lead guitar on Sunday Morning by the Velvet Underground. Sterling Morrison at his best.
Or, anything Mark Lightcap has ever played.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Lou's solo on "I heard her call my name"? That's got a pleasant lil' bounce to it..

I love that track sooooo much. For maximum impact, crank on your car stereo while cruising an empty stretch of Woodward Ave on one of those hot Detroit summer nights where it's still in the upper 90's and humid at 3 am...

I like all the Zappa solos mentioned, especially Muffin Man. Haven't heard that in a long time; I remember it absolutely floored me the first time.

Seems mostly we've been talking electric part - what of acoustic? The acoustic guitar on Zappa's "Nine Types of Industrial Pollution," and "Sleep Dirt" is outstanding - in the former it's like this angular 12-tone stuff against a background of garbage can lids; the latter is so strange/beautiful it's like Martian John Fahey

A nice electric one, although I'm not really into Hendrix that much, is the solo on "In from the Storm."

about 2/3rds of the way through killer mchann by the jesus lizard, where theres just 1 measure of guitar and drums and duane denison is playing that high dissonant chord repeated in blasts and then david wm. sims comes in the next measure with that huge descending scaley line. 1 chord and perhaps only 3 seconds playing total but that's always been the song where i tell myself that band was unfuckwithable. those 2 measures make the song, record and band for me.
