Re: Names NOT to Use for Your STUDIO
I think the Hit Factory and Hitsville USA are kinda cool simply because they are old school studios that live up to their names.
I think the worst studio name is Cello. I'm so glad they are changing their name back to Western Recorders.

.. they were a huge (by NZ standards) band over here. their hit songs included such lyrical gems as "can't get enough can't get enough NO! can't get enough can't get enough NO!"

Re: Names NOT to Use for Your STUDIO
I've had quite enough NO, thanks. I'm prepared for some YES if at all possible.

Re: Names NOT to Use for Your STUDIO
I once recorded at a place called "Stinky Pete's". Suprise, suprise......the recording stank. I thought "I'm gonna have to learn to do this myself". A few years later, I have my own studio. I guess i owe him some thanks.

I can't really say that I'm shocked that a band called Supergroove really existed, but now I know for sure. I'm also not shocked that it was all white guys. There is an innacurracy in that bio, though: the Chili Peppers were never funky.Disasteradio wrote:prepare to be shocked, mister Garges:

Man, another terrible one was "Scorpi-orpi-orpi-orpio Scorpio girls, Scorpi-orpi-orpi-orpios rocking my world". I thought they were almost cool when I was 12.cgarges wrote:I can't really say that I'm shocked that a band called Supergroove really existed, but now I know for sure.

Re: Names NOT to Use for Your STUDIO
Cowtrax just reminded me that I passed by a "Moo Studios" in Burbank the other day, but apparently they are a commercial/tv studio. They did the recent Guiness campaign ("Brilliant!").
I always thought "Track Record" was kind of a weak name. Nothing personal, guys. It was probably cool at the time when you were recording Slayer.
I've seen another place around here with a sign that says "Music Studios", and another one that has a banner that says "digital recording studio PRO TOOLS".
I should just look up studios in the area, I bet I'll find a million bad names.

Get Laid! Or maybe this is a good name.. Hmmm.. A name to ponder, anyhow
Re: Names NOT to Use for Your STUDIO
Former (I suppose) owner Scott Parker is interviewed in Jim Mandell's "Studio Business Book" (1995)- he says the name came thusly:TapeOpLarry wrote:I always wonder where Dead Aunt Thelmas came from here. That's a weird name for a studio owned by the Oregon Catholic Press!
"My wife brought down some pound cake when we were in the basement, and someone said 'this is really good, where'd it come from?' I said 'Oh, it's my dead aunt Thelma's recipe.' And everything that night was dead aunt Thelma's this and that, and it started showing up on album credits."
Steve Albini used to like it
