Well, there was this guy, bout 30something years ago.Played the solo, yet to be topped,in my book.Actually, the whole record is still the high watermark, for "dangerous blues based guitar pickin".It still frightens me,after all these years. Its called "Truth"& its ,Mr. J Beck Oh,the solo is from," blues deluxe"

ooooh! also whoever mentioned 'maggot brain' --- i love the guitar all over that album. great riff, great tone on 'super stupid' --- r.i.p. eddie.

also, derek bailey's tone (and those great sounds) he coaxes out of the guitar on 'Guitar, Drums 'N' Bass' are pretty incredible...

"Love Rears Its Ugly Head" by Living Colour has the slinkiest, sexiest half-solo i've ever heard in my life.

and the guitar solo from "Maybe I'm Amazed" off the 1st McCartney album is perfect.

then there's pretty much everything Dave Gilmour's ever done.

getting real into that Kaki King disc these days. she's like an early reincarnation of Michael Hedges or something. and i don't think she's even drinking age yet!

i know it's cheesy, and no big deal, but i've always loved the guitar solo in Journey's "any way you want it" ... mmmmm.

i second television's "marquee moon". that is some fine guitarism.

gotta love hendrix, but i couldn't decide.

on a completely different spectrum, and while it may sound cliche, i love the guitars on loveless, especially only shallow.

i like the guitar jamming throughout graham nash's "military madness".

and while it might be simple or no big deal, i like be bop deluxe's "heavenly homes". man i love that song...

ARG... see how hard this is to decide?

hey, Neil Schon is one of the finest guitar players ever! totally tasty licks on every Journey record. as for Hendrix, i'd vote for either "Machine Gun" or "Voodoo Child" (the version where he goes nuts).

OK, so sue me for the second post, but I wanna mention two specific solos:

Neil Young on "Cinnamon Girl." Could it be any simpler, easier or right?

Reeves Gabrels on Tin Machine's "Heaven's in Here." Could it be any more complicated, sophisticated, or wrong?
