if you listen to it real loud for a while, you'll be missing the top of your hearing...

The new Air cd is great. Reminds me a lot of Cornelius though. From Japan. Anyway, about the whole Radiohead discussion, I thought most of their albums prior to Kid A were decent at best, and since Kid A have been excellent. Production and songwriting. But that's just my opinion.

why would you ever listen to "sea change" real loud in the first place? it's just not that kind of record at all for me...it's more of an irish whiskey and foot stool kind of thing.

thanks,
todd

You're right we don't even have to. The EQ and compression choices were made to make it sound loud at low volume. Does Nigel Godrich think volume knobs are missing from all stereos? He should work on beer adverts. :D

well, perhaps some would chose not to, but regardless, the option isnt there to those that do in fact DO want to. Those high pitched bells on paper tiger, whatever was used to record them, literally make me cringe in pain, literally, when I play that record. Too much fucking high end to the point that it is physically unpleasant to listen to. Outside of that minor detail, that record is amazing, even with the trainwreck drummer.

I havent checked out the air records. which is a good one to start with? I wasnt particularly moved with the virgin suicides stuff.

if you weren't moved by the virgin suicides stuff, you may be in trouble. that's the album that got me into them. the new one is very cool, wish there were some real drums. 10k hertz legend isn't all that, but there are some great tracks on there, and some nice arrangements. moon safari is pretty cool, that's the one most people dig, i guess...

Virgin Suicides didnt do much for me. I'd recommend starting with the Moon Safari album.

For the most part, yes, all drums are programmed, though there are parts (not on the new one) where they actually play acoustic drums, though not often. The drums/programming is always very minimal, melody is always the focus.

So, pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is or would be the point of boosting at 12k?
