I tried to insert my Distressor the same way I insert an RNC?with one TRS cable?and got no results.
1) Why does this method work with RNC but not with the Distressor?
2) I guess that means I need a Y-cable to insert the Distressor?
3) Since my insert jacks on my console are unbalanced, do I then use TS and go into the unbalanced ins and outs of the Distressor?
Thanks!

Re: Question for Distressor owners
The Distressor has seperate unbalanced ins and outs without the all-in-one option that the RNC has.abrawner wrote:I tried to insert my Distressor the same way I insert an RNC?with one TRS cable?and got no results.

Yes, assuming you want to use it on an insert point with a split TRS design.
Yes, assuming that by TS you mean one side of a "Y" cable. One side will be the send and one will be the return. If you plug it in and don't hear anything, then you probably have the return going to the Distressor's input and the send going to the Distressor's output and you need to switch them.abrawner wrote:3) Since my insert jacks on my console are unbalanced, do I then use TS and go into the unbalanced ins and outs of the Distressor?
By the way, I have a couple of (I think 6') Monster insert ("Y') cables that I have no use for. PM me if you're interested.

Re: Question for Distressor owners
it should work, but what the last cat said was right, you might have the
ins and out backwards. some consoles use the tip as a send some
use the ring, if none of this works plug the output of what ever device
your using into the comp and the output of the comp into the mixer
or whatever your using. as far as the rnc its an unbalanced device.
I think the rnc sounds a little like the distressor, if the rnc is in really
nice mode, but then again I'm fuckin' nuts, and the distressor cost
like 25 times more!!!!! for a stereo pair....

Re: Question for Distressor owners
This stuff just freaks me out. I've done all the google searches (and searches of this board) in the world, but I still don't know what the hell a "floating pin" is or whatever. All I know is, there's a cord and it plugs in. When my Distressor manual says "if you use a single-ended XLR ouput, leave unused pin floating," that might as well be written in the language of Martians. How does one leave an unused pin floating?
If someone knows of a magical source out there that will clear up these issues for me for once and all, PLEASE point me to it.

Re: Question for Distressor owners
that means you don't short (connect) the negative (typicaly the ring of a TRS or pin 3 of an XLR) to the ground (typically pin 1 of an XLR or the Sleeve of a TRS.
if you are using it as an insert, fuggedaboutit. if you are goin from XLR- 1/4" cables, open the caseing on the XLR end and see if there's a teeny jumper wire going from pin 1 to pin 3. cut it to follow those instructions, or don't because it prolly doesn't matter. But the cat that made the distressor is way ahead of me, so you should prolly do it.
