Famous records featuring the Stratocaster

Post by greenmeansjoe » Tue Mar 16, 2004 10:20 am

Can anyone throw some famous Strat records at me? It's for a 50th anniversary thing we're doing at the newspaper I work at.

Thanks.

Jesus, where do you start?

Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix,....

You should check out the fender.com website for all the "Artist" series Strats. Everyone from Clapton to Yngwie.... should give you a good list.

Did that already. I guess I'm actually looking for some off-the-wall stuff, or less obvious ideas, things like Radio City, y'know?

'Miserlou' by Dick Dale And His Del-Tones, better known as the theme to 'Pulp Fiction'

'Voodoo Chile (Slight Return),' both the Hendrix and SRV versions

I might be wrong, but I've always throught 'September Gurls' by Big Star was a Strat

A lot of Big Star seems strat-ish. To me, O My Soul is an example of that clean stat with the middle and bridge pickup. that box-y sound.

Who played a Strat on Marquee Moon? Tom Verlaine played a Tele, right?

Hmm. Good suggestions so far. Keep 'em comin'.

Richard Lloyd is the Strat guy. You can really hear it in his little fills on "Friction".

A lot of the arpeggiated guitar parts on Smiths records is Strat.

Another good example is the Soft Boys' "Underwater Moonlight". Listen to the guitar intro to "Old Pervert". One of the craziest, coolest guitar sounds ever.

I think tapeop member Bear may have used one, and he's apparently as famous as the place known as 'hell'.

I would opt to say the Jaguar was more popular for those...
