Post by al burn » Sat Jun 14, 2003 9:11 pm

I bought a d-mag at a thrift store today. It's an Audiotex (cat. no. 30-112)

it is smaller than ones i have used before whith a button you hold down at the top

it has a UL listing but i am still afraid to use it

what do you think?

al burn!...just plug it in and try it,before you use it on the tape machine!!.
I use one with a switch, they do recommend that you dont use this kind, because if your finger slips off the button etc. when your close to the heads,it can lead to magnetized heads.

I'm assuming you do know the way to use it?!. Just be carefull, and try switching it on ,off!! until your satisfied it is not going to switch it's self off while your close to the head assembly, i had an accident one time, because my one uses a two prong plug, and it slipped out the plug adapter, but i got away with it!!.

Good luck

i was using the d-mag and it dosen't seem to have that strong of field
compaired to the ones i use at school (you could pick up keys and whipe out credit-ID card strips etc)

this one only picks up paper clips

is this bad for the tape deck?

I haven't used it on the tape deck yet; should I use it?

No, it's not bad for the machine!. Demaggers come in different strenghths.
My one is a Fostex,it's not that strong either..better to demag regular than not at all!! if it works, then use it!...i have a b16 and an r8. Love these machines, sound great!!

The g16 is a good machine eh??.

yes, the g16 is good buy the fact that it's 16 tracks but i'd rather have a 1" 8 track but, i can't afford one of those.

is the b16 a 2 or 3 head deck

the g16 is a 2 head

now if i can get a 15ips IEC MRL tape i'll be stoked

al, the b16 is a two head deck. Sounds real nice!!,i bought that one a few months back for 300 quid,it's in really good condition, up until then i was using my R8, but i do a fair bit of band work, so the extra 8 traks are well handy!!!

Cheers
