just watch how the west was won..the Immigrant song..that is if you don't have low self esteem issues as a musician..
it's both thrilling and demoralizing at the same time.....
he was a huge part of the sound and chemistry of that band.....

Uh-huh. I like it! Don't forget Jimmy Page. One of the most influential guitarists ever! Page was also at least partially responsible for the drum production on the later records. There was some cool info about recording "When the Levee Breaks" in the Andy Johns article last issue.

You don't need to know this, but my dad used to cut jimmy page's hair ...not often, obviously.

Re: John Bonham...
I recently got to hear some really great Zepp studio outtakes. In the middle of one of those deep, huge 12/8 blues tunes, Bonham went for something and completely lost it. Man, did I feel good after that.
What a badass.

It is my highly esteemed opininininininion that Mr. John Paul Jones (Jonesy) was the real unsung hero of the band.

For sure! Not only did he play so many different parts as well as arrange, but he was a complete badass on the bass - following jimmy page note-wise while staying with bonham. holy goddamn crap.
btw, robert plant was the weak link in that band. not on the same level at all.

Re: John Bonham...
I used to think that, but lately I've warmed up to him a little. But some of the songs (HOTH anyone?) are so sped up that he sounds like a fluffy lil'munchkin. In other word, CUTE!ratty-matty wrote: btw, robert plant was the weak link in that band. not on the same level at all.

Re: John Bonham...
John Bonham? Not really a Zep fan, but Bonzo's drumming is the one thing about the band I dig. So, I'm definitely in agreement.
Dude, I'm totally with you on this one!!! Obviously, John, Paul and George were insanely good songwriters, but even their mediocre shit I get into, and it's usually because of how awesome the drums are. I hear people all the time saying Ringo wasn't much of a drummer, and that kills me! You know it's him within 10 seconds of the start of a song. He's all dat ... dat ... doo daka ... dum dum.musikman316 wrote:Ringo made...
