Places to play in Santa Cruz, Sacto, and Portland...
Don't know if this is misplaced, but tell me where to put it and I'll delete it...
Anyway, my band is looking to stretch out some more and we need info on places to play out of town in the NoCal areas....
In Santa Cruz, is there anywhere else to play besides the Catalyst?
I cant get an email through to the Capitol Garage in Sac... anyone else know who deals with bookings? Are there other placed to play? I know it's kind of farther, but what's the name of that place in Merced that used to be a movie theatre and now R.C. Cauliflower is doing the booking? (and how do I get ahold of him?)
Any reccomendations for Portland?
I need names, emails, phone #'s and favorite beers.
This is for a "progressive-minimalist-pop" band. Nice one, huh?
OH!!!!! and where to play in LA?

Sacto, good luck. i've attempted to book a show in that town for a long time with no luck. i've left messages and emails with cap garage and never hear a thing. if you find anything let me know we gotta hole in the sched. as far as portland, Ash street saloon, berbati's Pan, Meow Meow are all places i've played and enjoyed. they can all be found doing a google search.

wow satyricon is closed...
what about the restaurant next door? wuz it name.... um.. fellini's? mmm. they had great calamari there.
well goodbye satyricon. an institution (i think that is where kurt met courtney), i saw a bunch of amazing shows there (harry pussy being the best probably, 10 people there, chairs thrown around, germs covers).
but they did rip off just about every band that came through there. treated local bands like total garbage. (no pay, no drink tickets, just a slight beer discount) plenty of touring bands didnt even get the courtesy gas money to the next gig from them. it sounded like shit, and had a way too small backstage.

....but it WAS a great club.
yeah, i guess whatshisname (can't remember) was just over it or sumthin', sold it. don't know what's gonna happen to the space. i would assume fellini closed too, but i don't know for sure.
EJ's, satyricon... what's next?

Re: Places to play in Santa Cruz, Sacto, and Portland...
what's this DV8 or deviate place in portland all about? new club or something?
Re: Places to play in Santa Cruz, Sacto, and Portland...
e j's, another great club that was shitty to bands at the same time.
better sound then satyricon, but no backstage (i was playing in a costume band in portland, so this is a sensitive issue for me).
is mike thrasher still around? what a dick. as far as i could tell he was the leader in the rip off the band craze in portland.
scene:
[after playing a show at EJs with bow wow wow, $15 dollars a ticket, sold out, and oversold. probably 350+ in the room]
"um.. mike. do you have any money for us? (we were the only opening band)"
"no"
"really, werent there like, a couple hundred people here at $15 a pop?"
"we gave away a lot of those tickets to the alt rock station"
"hundreds?"
"and bow wow wow was expensive"
"yea, but, do you have like $40 or so, just to cover our drink ticket?"
"sorry dude, i dont have any money"
