the mxl 990 isn't that bad

of a condensor mic for the price (59$)
i figured what the hell, 60 bucks is worth a try, and i've been pleased so far. not for pros by any means, but darn fine for home recording, of vocals, acoustics, and overhead drums.

I use one live for either Leslie bass or Leslie top (depending on my mood) and it sounds great. I haven't used it in the studio yet.

It's another Guitar Center 2-pack. MXL 990 along with a 991 all for just $99.

I got a pair (for free) when I ordered my Aardvark Q10 from Musiciansfriend and they work for me.

I got a pair about a year ago and have used them for OH's ever since. Now I'm just a basement recordist so bear that in mind but my buddy has a "real" studio (www.studiowestkc.com) and I loaned them to him and had a hell of a time getting them back. definitely worth the $59 IMO

I like them for instruments but haven't like them as much for vocals. Works OK on vocals I guess but sounds better for overheads or room mic stuff.

nah, it isn't bad - it can be a little "toppy" for me, but it seems to work weel w/ female vox. haven't tried it elsewhere yet. I heard people like a pair os drum OH.

So the 991 - I can't find any info on this mic. Any tales?

What is the difference between a "Blem MXL 990" and a "MXL 990" besides $7.80?

its prolly scratched or dented, but it may be completely trashed, I'd spend the extra $$

the scratch and dent warehouse is in Kansas City and some of that shit is totalled!
