Mbox + iBook = AHH!

Post by logancircle » Wed Apr 14, 2004 9:32 am

I'm trying to install PT6.0 LE onto my iBook G4 but not having no success starting a session. Protools starts up fine, I say create new session and designate my Lacie FW drive as the location. The session screen with tracks begins to pop up, then it says "You need to restart your computer. Hold down power button..." I restart, try PT again, try opening a new session on my laptop's hardrive just as a test....same thing happens: "You need to restart...". Any ideas? AHH!

you know, i was having similar problems, but I blamed my old ibook at first (466 clamshell, not supported for 6.x). I kept getting that crash, then I think I updated to 6.0.1 or 6.1 or whatever the one is on their website for the mbox...but that only solved the crash problem. the new problem was that it would record for 10 seconds, then stop ( buffer too low, buffer too high, it didn't like whatever I tried). I asked a knowledgeable person about it, and they said it mught be the initialization of the drive. I tried recording to the internal drive and it worked fine. I usually only use the mbox and the laptop for stereo location recordings, so I just keep using the internal, and I make damn sure I make a good back up to a standalone cd or something.

Thanks, but WTF--that's ridiculous! I can't imagine that's the final answer. Am I supposed to believe you can't install and use PT6 on a 6 month old iBook?
