Every album 'Sigur Ros' came out with is awesome. 'Explosions In The Sky' is def. such a good band too. 'Godspeed You! Black Emperor' is def. another band to look for. They just keep releasing amazing material.

swedish
late night recording sessions sound the best.

oh man, i remember when i first heard Godspeed You Black Emperor at an afterparty, i was blown away by how fast they were...i had never heard death metal pouring out so quickly...and it was articulate and not muddy like Napalm Death and all of those other old standbys...

I'm I dunno. I'm...wtf. I don't tend to think of GSYBE and Napalm Death in the same yunno. Bracket? I'm going to listen to LYSFLAtH again.

Godspeed are super slow and have nothing to do with death metal. Maybe your post was Ironic and I'm too tired/slow to get it. Maybe there's two Godspeed you Black Emperors.

Check out the Detroit Cobras. Girl has a great voice. Only one I've ever heard do Otis Redding justice, barring of course, Tina Turner.

hmmm, slow you say? all i remember was hearing it on someone's record player and hearing these really fast articulated metal riffs and i asked somebody what we were listening to and they said it was GYBE, then again everyone was drunk so who knows? now i'm tempted to find some of their music to see what the hell i really listened to then...

Very much liking the latest Steve "Rabble Rouser" Earle's newest. (Note that Eric Ambel is on guitar again!)

And Rachel Yamagata has an interesting take on jazz/dance/pop...

My brothers and I stumbled on a Godspeed, Labradford, and Matmos show here in SF a couple of years ago. Changed my whole music listening mindset. I was all about mosh pits, punk rock, fugazi and tool, and then here's this incredible show where everyone sits down when the bands come out. Amazing.
I get satisfaction of three kinds. One is creating something, one is being paid for it and one is the feeling that I haven?t just been sitting on my ass all afternoon.

These are the discs I've been enjoying recently.

Explosions in the sky - The earth is not a cold dead place

Pinback - Blue Screen Life

Boilermaker - Watercourse - YOu don't hear much about Boilermaker for some reason. Really really good straight up rock music...not led zepplin rock..like nirvana/meatpuppets/dinosour jr. but not. Mark Trombino did one of their later albums..get any of them.

Vaz - Dying to meet you. - These are 2 of the guys from the Amphetemine Repile band Hammerhead. The drumming is almost disturbing. Check it out, their first recored Demonstrations in Micronesia is pretty damn good.

Built to Spill - Keep it like a secret - I saw them 3 weeks ago at the House of Blues in Anaheim. SOooooo good...they just jam for like 12 - 15 minutes and it's incredible. Doug Martsch is an amazing guitar player.
