Quality 8-Track Reel to Reel Recorder

Post by bad_dude_69 » Wed Apr 21, 2004 12:25 pm

Hey there, after working for far too long in an entirely digital domain I'm ready for an 8-track Reel-to-Reel. Any suggestions out there? I've been looking but haven't been able to really find any sure-shots. $1500 is my utter max, I appreciate all help.

an otari mx 5050 or a tascam 38 would fit your bill. I scored a 38 for 500 with a flight case, snakes, and noise units.
Solid sounding unit!

According to Prepal you should be able to pick up a Tascam MS16 (which is a 1" 16 track) for about $1,500

I have no idea how accurate Prepal is these days.

MCI JH-110 -8 track One inch
You can sync it up to protools with an Adams Smith Zeta III unit. Tape Machine and Zeta III can be bought for under $1500.

you had me goin' there for a minute with the MS16 - the thing is i'd have to get a 16-channel mixer which i don't have. eh, maybe i'm just trying to tame my wild fantasies though...

as for the 16 track on ebay --

cheap plane ticket Chicago to FL

u-haul rental van back to Chicago

not impossible, take a vacation while you are at it. I highly recommend the Beachfront Hostel in Ft Lauderdale. $18 a night, shared bunks, but cool folks.

Good luck.

What is it with Florida? I've seen alot of good deals down there lately.

I see you are in chicago, ihavecomputer. I am too so ill keep my eyes open for any machines that may appear. A good place to check daily is Chicago ebay. You can browse by region and drill down to chicago and pro audio by going to the browse section of the site. I don't know how far you are willing to go though.
