Metric Halo ULN 2 bypass
Metric Halo ULN 2 bypass
I am considering buying the ULN 2 but I am wondering about bypass. I was told that you can bypass the pres and just use the converters by not firing up the MIO software based console. What if I want to use some of the ULN's pres in conjunction with my outboard pres? Is there any way to do that?

The uln-2 has a send/return insert before the convertors so you can use the pres standalone. The inputs are combo neutrik jacks .It only has two analog ins though.
Re: Metric Halo ULN 2 bypass
Do you know anything about the 2882? Does it accept more analog ins?
Re: Metric Halo ULN 2 bypass
I mean other ins that can be bypassed. Like for instance say I was using 8 mics to track drums. What if I wanted to use four outboard pres that could be bypassed through the MIO console and still use the four other pres that are in the 2882. Is that possible?
Re: Metric Halo ULN 2 bypass
I have both boxes and I love em.
The 2882 has 8 analog ins, all of which can be set to mic, line, or instrument level. Which means you can use other pres on any or all of those channels. If you don't need the excellent pres in the ULN2, you should get the 2882. If you need the pres, the ones in the ULN2 are much better than those in the 2882.
I think you could also run an external pre into the ULN2, and turn the gain all the way down, though I haven't tried it.

Re: Metric Halo ULN 2 bypass
i use the 2882 w outboard pres regularly. no probs, very flexible inputs, can choose +4, -10, inst, mic, or mic+pad input level on each and w continously variable boost from there. also has individually switchable phantom on all 8 inputs in case you need it. so basically can use any combination of int/ext pres you want. i love mine, looking fwd to getting a second one.
