Strange elect. interference... intermittent rapid popping.

Lately this strange kind of electrical interference has been popping up everywhere in my life... manifesting itself as a fast, loud double or sometimes triple popping that reoccours every 10-20 minutes. I hear it at work (projecting films) coming out of the room speakers, I hear it at home watching television (actually most often watching videos), I heard it at a friend's house coming out of his external computer speakers, and a few weeks ago I noticed the sound buried in a mix (DAW) I had already wrapped up on... I had bounced before I had noticed it, before I could trace which track it had ended up on... probably something direct, like a guitar pedal. Or maybe a mic'd amp? And I hear it through my monitors. Not via recordings, of their own accord.

Work: projector and amplifier grounded, at a university that provides its own power. Everything else: tv, my crappy monitors, etc. I think are ungrounded.

Hopefully this hasn't been addressed here before, but what in the heck is this? At home sometimes it goes away for a few days then comes back. crazy, and it's getting irritating.

I have never had that, but if it is a relatively new problem, and not just occuring at your house, I would consider the possability that it has something to do with cell phone signals, or one of the newer technologies. Perhaps even related to wireless net or something.
