"She's got the hip dippin' trick" from Her Way of Praying (JAM Chain). Cmon! That line, plus that title? Don't that git you hott?

edit: OK, or Bob Segar and the Silver Mullet Band.

"Wham, bam, thank you ma'am
I'm a born hell raiser and I don't give a damn"

-MC5, "Rocket Reducer #62 (Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa)"
Anybody seen the MC5 documentary "A True Testimonial"? It's excellent, and should be required viewing in Rock 101.

Actually, now that I think of it, Sammy Hagar has penned some of my favorite rock lyrics, like these:
"Only time will tell if we stand the test of time"

and my personal favorite-
"Crank up the drums, crank up the bass, crank up the Les Paul...in your face!"

AC/DC nailed it. "It's a long way to the top" has got to be the first and last page in the book of rock poetry. If someone asked me what rock'n'roll is, I'd play them this song.

This is a corker from Shook Me, "She told me to come but I was already there".

I think The Boss is a great story teller. "The River" and "Born To Run" come to mind.

There's so many good lyrics on Tom Waits' "Mule Variations" and it all starts with "I'm Big In Japan".

The Boss is hard to beat:

The screen door slams,
Mary's dress waves.
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays.

Roy Orbison's singin' for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only.
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again.

Thunder Road, first lines.

Much much more, man,, what a storyteller.

Not really rock, this, cept when Van Morrison sings it, but
Raglan Road, from Van Morrison and the Chieftans. I think the lyrics of the whole tune are intensely profound.

I always thought it should be "because of my rage....."

these lines are hard to beat:

I walk these streets, a loaded six string on my back
I play for keeps, ?cause I might not make it back
I been everywhere, still I?m standing tall
I?ve seen a million faces an I?ve rocked them all

after jon bonjovi gets the acting bug out of his system, i see him becoming poet laureate.

I offer for consideration...

Robert Plant:
"I'm gonna give you every inch of my love"

Old Dirtry Bastard:
"I got burnt once, but it was only ghonorea."

Joey Ramone:
"Hey, Ho, Let's Go!"

Bon Scotts lyrics were as rock and roll as they come.

"Taking It To Detroit" - The Good Rats. That song is totally ripe for the pickin' as a cover version by somebody like the Darkness, Jet, Black Crowes, etc. IMHO. It's made even better when you've seen that famous film clip of Kiss in makeup being inteviewed on the radio in Detroit. Awesome!

How about "Rocks Off" by the Stones, some real gems there - "I'm zipping through the days at lightning speed/Plug in, flush out and fire the f-ing feed." Exile is full of gems -- "Never got a flash out of cocktails/When I got some flesh off the bone/Never got a lift out of Lear jets/When I can fly way back home" or the incredibly succint "Casino Boogie" - "Grotesque music, million dollar sad."

Chuck Berry's got a million of 'em: "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" "Too Much Monkey Business," "Sweet Little Rock And Roller" etc.

And then there's "I... just want to rock and roll all night/And party every day." Can't get much more rock 'n' roll than that. Except maybe the "Have a good time, all the time" dude in the bathtub from Spinal Tap, but that's not really lyrics...
"Every song needs a cranked marshall for mojo, even if decorum requires muting the track."

"Easy? The only time I'll be easy's when I'm...Killed By Death!"

"Tame!"

"Destroy!"

"I'd rather die, than give you control!"

"I'm your main man if you're looking for trouble,
I take no lip 'cause no one's tougher than me."

"I wanna be your dog."
"I have always tried to present myself as the type of person who enjoys watching dudes fight other dudes with iron claws."

You gotta put chuck berry at the top of the list. He defined what real rock n roll is all about. Fast cars, young girls and rock and roll.
The only true great mic on this planet is the Shure SM-57. It is the most consistant in not totally sucking of anything ever built. All other mics are "application dependant".
