Alesis Andromeda.
I've never been jealous of a keyboard until now.

I'm not real clear from the original post what the synth is for. It's kind of like saying, "I want a mic that's clear, warm, flat, and colored."
Also note there's a lot of info on many synths @ harmonycentral.com (reviews) and synthsite.com (reviews, & a message board called the Gas Station). As far as I can tell, the Tape Op crowd don't spend a lot of money on new synths, although I'm sure there are exceptions . . .

THEE MONSTER synths out there right now are still the Arp Odyssey, Korg MS-20, and Moog Minimoog.
Seriously, if you want girth, weight, and flexibility to wiggle then you want a true analog. The VA's are getting good, but they're still not real, and if you A/B it, you'll totally hear the difference.

I love the moogs, ms-20 etc and I own several old analog synths.
I'm also very familiar with MS-2000's and Nord Lead and modular.
I'll have to tell you the Alesis Andromena is it.
It's fully analog and polyphonic and a full complement of assignable knobs with modern midi capabilities. Plus it sounds great.
Don't get me wrong the old stuff is awesome too. If you want the one stop
choice though for cool analog sounds, it's currently the way to go.

No one mentioned the Moog Voyager. From what I understand it's the reincarnation of the MiniMoog. I usually see them going for around $2500 new.

That new moog is pretty fucking cool. I have played around with it at the G spot a few times but I really want to see what midi capibilities it has.
Oh yhea, for my money big cool synth sound...Reason run through an avalon U5.

Elektron MonoMachine!
www.monomachine.com
It's totally unique - 6 tracks of mono synthesis. My studio partner is a huge Elektron fan, he's got everything they've put out so far.
the DSP on this thing is frikkin' incredible.

Re: What's THEE MONSTER new synth out there right now ?
I felt a little let down when I actually played the Andromeda. For all the hype about the Moog and Oberheim-style components, it doesn't really sound as big as, say, a Mini- or MemoryMoog, or even a Studio Electronics Omega-8.
For some reason. a well-designed synth that's at least partly discrete (the Memorymoog uses a lot of chips, but I don't think the filters are chip-based) sounds bigger to me.
Not that the Andy wouldn't be a nice synth to have. And of course, i was just hearing presets.

KDarr, that signature is awesome.
That Hartmann does look cool.
Odyssey? Andromeda? Minimoog? Jupiter? Nord Lead?
I don't know...they're all pretty cool.
