I've asked it before but never under its own thread, but I need to know.
If I can make a pin hole camera out of an oatmeal box, how come I can't make a crappy home made recorder?? Just for fun, and I figure I can learn from it, and put directions inside my next record. WHat do I need, what's around the house???
Some one posted a few weeks ago those ones from japan that can cut sound into plastic cups and blank CDs. I want to make one of those my self.

okay, so do some research. the nice thing here is that, unlike Edison, you have 100+ years of information available to you in how other people have done it.Lance Roma?ce wrote:No, I saw those. I want to make my own recorder though, not some thing i have to order from Japan.
go back to the start - look up Edison's patent on the phonograph. Look up old Ampex patents for early tape systems. Look into wire recorders. Read up on Les Paul and his homebrew systems.
if you want to do it, do it. start with a) deciding on a format, and b) researching it.
