It's worse. Check out the massive rack of digitech processors in the 'gear' picture - them's vintage digitech boxes!!jca83 wrote:i think it's so crazy how he talks about all "pro this" and "a REAL studio" that... and then he's using a lot of home recorder gear - 001, ADATs, etc. anybody else notice that?
As far as 'corporate vibe' - it looks more like a ratty apartment to me...
Re: And you thought Walter Sear made you cry..
Q: How much should I expect to pay for a demo?
A: You can spend as little as a few hundred dollars and your demo will probably sound terrible and not impress anybody. You need to have an outstanding demo that will compete with the professional product that record companies receive everyday.
Doing a cheap demo is worse than not doing one at all. You will give a bad impression to the people that you?re sending your demo to, and it will be harder for you to be heard the next time around.
We have 2 levels of pricing to match any budget. If this is your dream, you need to give yourself a genuine chance of succeeding! If you expect to actually impress record company executives who recieve hundreds of demos everyday, the only way to do it is with quality-from a professional.

Q: I hear the music business can be shady. What should I watch out for?
A: First, read our 10 Pitfalls you MUST avoid when doing your demo!
Unfortunately, there are many scams to watch out for. Believe it or not, the business is alot more shady with non-professionals who have very little legitamate music industry experience then it is higher up on the food chain where we make records.
We see some companies
Remember, if something looks shady, it probably is.
wow..these guys are really shady!!!
you must spend a lot of money on your demo or record co's wont be impressed..up to $1100 per song if Mr SKY produces it!!
god damn it all to hell

Perhaps smojo from the worst client ever thread might want to hook her current clients up with him.

Man, this guy is full of it. I hate it when people pad their client list with bullsh*t - like listing "Quad Recording Studios" as a client. How were they a client? Did they drop tapes off at your place once? Did you drop tapes at their place? Did you deliver a pizza there?
Or how about under "Radio" - listing High Times magazine.
This quote kills me :"He is on the forefront because he uses the most advanced technology. He is truly amazing."
oh. my. god.

I don't think this Skye guy has one thing in common with Mr. Sear.some of the same philosophy as walter but goes a little deeper..
This guy is obviously going after the "American Idol" crowd... I wonder if William Hung recorded there?
Hey, but this guy has four mics!! When one would do the job. Now that's professionalism.
Re: And you thought Walter Sear made you cry..
Yeah they're in totally different leagues..but they have the same feeling about us.I don't think this Skye guy has one thing in common with Mr. Sear.
He says some of the exact same things as the sear article. Specifically the remarks about peole who don't have PROFESSIONAL studios and who record from home..
I don't understand how you can't see this point.

Mr Sear, however, has earned a right to his opinion quite clearly. (whether one agrees with him or not.) I think folks here are arguing that Mr Skye hasn't... quite clearly.

Re: And you thought Walter Sear made you cry..
I disagree. Think about it. If Sear didn't give a shit about guys like us, he wouldn't have done the Tape Op interview. He has high standards and wants us to live up to them. Where he goes wrong, I think, is he doesn't seem to understand that sonic fidelity is not the highest goal for everyone, and what we're trying to achieve may be very different from his tastes. He's like the tough father who doesn't understand his kids. It doesn't mean he doesn't care.but they have the same feeling about us.
Then there's this Skye guy. He doesn't like home studios because they are competition. He has to diss you because you can do a better job, cheaper, and he knows it. I don't think any of us can claim to compete with Walter Sear. So for one guy, it's about principle (whether you agree with him or not) and the other is just scummy. They may say some things that sound similar, but they couldn't be any farther apart.

OK ubertar
good point..
I just think people should keep that kind of negative opinion to themselves and let their work speak for itself...that kind of venting doesn't help anyone and put the person spouting it in a bad light.

Re: And you thought Walter Sear made you cry..
No, that's not true. Mr. Skye can't even stand in the same room as Mr. Sear. Mr. Skye is the one who is baggin on home recordists. Mr. Sear is really just angry with "professionals" who have abandoned quality for the sake of convenience or who don't bother to learn the fundamentals of the craft. IMOYeah they're in totally different leagues..but they have the same feeling about us.
