i found a tascam teac 80-8 in the trash

Post by brendan » Wed Jun 23, 2004 6:47 am

yes. it is true, and it seems to be in great condition. it looks really clean, but it smells like a basement. i found it in the trash in it's original box and in styrofoam. there was also a board which was probably built at the same time and was matched for this machine, it is a teac studio 5 or something.

i fired the machine up and some smoke came out of the top. this could be dust, because it has been sitting for quite some time, but does anyone know where i can take this thing to get cleaned or where i could get a take up rell for it?

i am in massachusetts. send me an email at brendan@equivalents.org, if you know of someone.

this was truly an amazing find. i have been recording stuff on a digital 8-track and have wanted to buy a tape machine, and there it was.

not sure about MA but here in jersey we have a place:

if you're ever in this area you could bring it by. but i'm sure someone up there does this too.
Thank you, Mario, but our princess is in another castle.

Hey man. You are looking at spending at least $80 on it to have someone check it out for an hour. In Massachusetts try:

Alactronics
Pro Audio Design
JRF Magnetics

These are all pro places so I don't know what they can do with a more consumer inclined deck. But they can def. check it out and see what needs to be done.

The tech dept. at Professional Audio Design is super. I know with a high degree of certainty that they can fix stuff like this, 'cause last thursday when I was there at the shop they had the same things you have sitting on a shelf waiting for their turn on the bench.
It'll run you $80+ an hour I'm sure, so set a maximum that you wanna spend on this, and let them know that number. Set priorities (make it work, then do finer details, etc, etc.)

Keep us posted.

thank you for the response. i will give that place a shot. everything about it looks real clean, so i wouldn't think there would be too much work to do on it. but then again i have no idea what could be wrong on the inside.

I want one of those really bad. Unfortunately I'm not as amazingly lucky as you seem to be.

that's a good question the spark..... i live 2 blocks from berklee college of music, so basically pretty much everone around me is a musician or engineer, so if it were stolen, it'd be easy to move. but if there was a break in I'm certain there'd be flyers up everywhere looking for help.
i bet it was just a coincidence

I have one of those. I've been thinking of getting rid of it but I wouldn't put it in the trash!
You're just what I needed
